Meet The Second Innings Team
Michael is the Principal of Second Innings and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia. He is an Authorised Financial Services Licensee and registered SMSF Auditor (Registration number 100043954). He has also recently ventured into Aged Care facilitation in the South East of South Australia and Western Victoria.
His formative years were with PWC’s Adelaide office where much of his focus at that time was in insolvency and small business restructures.
Michael has a strong background in taxation, superannuation and estate and succession planning, especially in the small business environment.
Michael has also worked in the softwood timber industry, meat and wool processing industries as well as operating a beef cattle enterprise with his wife at Kalangadoo.
Sonya is a qualified accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University and she has been a member of the Second Innings team since July 2011. She is currently undertaking study to become a member of the Certified Practicing Accountants of Australia.
Sonya is RG 146 accredited and has more than 13 years’ experience working in SMSF Administration and Compliance and the Accounting industry.
Sonya is experienced in business and personal taxation and is highly skilled in the use of MYOB and CashFlow Manager Software.
Prior to starting her career in Accounting in 2001, Sonya had worked in a few different area such as PIRSA as an Administration Assistant for the Aquaculture Unit and also as a Fisheries Licensing Officer, in the Adelaide Central Community Health Service as a Human Resources and Payroll Officer, and in private business providing payroll services as well as many years working in the hospitality industry.
Renae has over 15 years’ experience working within the superannuation sector. Renae commenced her career with a specialist superannuation administration business and has worked for both a large and a small Chartered accountancy firm before starting with Second Innings in 2008.
Renae has extensive knowledge of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds. Her studies over the last 20 years have included completing an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Superannuation), an Associate Diploma of Superannuation Management and an Advanced Diploma of Accounting. Renae has also met the training requirements of ASIC Policy Statement 146 for the provision of both general advice in Superannuation and advice in Self-Managed Superannuation Funds.
Melissa is the Office Administrator at Second Innings and has more than 12 years working in the Accounting industry. She has experience working in taxation including payroll services and preparation of business and individual tax returns and financial statements.
Melissa is BankLink accredited and has vast experience working with all manner of accounting software such as Cashflow Manager and MYOB AccountRight and Premier.
Melissa joined the Second Innings team in October 2011 after working as an Administration Officer at K & S Freighters. Prior to that Melissa had worked in a medium-size accounting firm in Mount Gambier as an Assistant Accountant.
Kellie is a qualified Accountant who completed her Bachelor of Commerce mostly while working as support staff and office manager for a financial planning firm. During this time her employment changed to tax accounting in direct connection to her studies. She has a good working knowledge of MYOB programs and is able to assist in the start-up of new business and ongoing issues.
Kellie joined Second Innings in January 2015 after an absence from tax accounting where she was employed in the local timber industry. Kellie’s role includes the preparation of financial statements and Business Activity Statements as well as the preparing income tax returns for businesses and individual clients.
Jo joined the Second Innings team in January 2016 after a two year break from accounting, where she worked as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager in a local engineering business. Jo’s current role for Second Innings is as a Self-Manged Superannuation Fund Administrator and Accountant.
Jo has a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of SA and has 10 years’ experience working in small to medium sized businesses in a range of roles from accounting, office management and Human Resources, and has recently completed her RG146 SMSF Specialist accreditation.
Jo worked as a Trust Accountant for a prominent Real Estate Agent in Victoria for 7 years before returning to Mount Gambier to take on the family business, and also has a high level of competency in MYOB including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, Workcover and financial reporting.
